The interview was recorded a few hours after Airspeed Odyssey had completed the ten rounds of the competition in Russia with a new 26.0 record meet average.
The video of the interview comes along with the videos of Round 2 at Bodyflight Bedford's World Challenge 2007. Airspeed Odyssey had won the tunnel competition with a 28.0 average after ten rounds.
Craig Girard was very excited about the perspectives and said that his team will change its mindset. He thought that it would be possible to increase the performance and scoring level significantly very soon. The main reason behind his vision was a new approach to exit and subterminal phase of a competition jump.
However, Craig Girard and Airspeed Odyssey followed up on their promises and expectations after the World Challenge 2007. The 26.0 average in Russia spoke its own language and did not need much commentary. The old record average of 24.1 was simply shattered.
The currently featured Round 2 at the World Challenge 2007 was a sequence of only random formations (A-G-K-P-M), and Airspeed Odyssey scored a 42-pointer. UK's pick-up team XL had the highscore with 44 points.
The conclusion can also come from the other end. The teams seem to have already caught up with the tunnel pace for the faster random work. The next step, especially for visionary Craig Girard and his team, will probably be to bring the block moves up to the same speed as in the windtunnel.
The Airspeed members talked more about their strategies in the interview, and one of the key words was momentum. The interview is almost 25 minutes long, but it is well worth the downloading.
