Did You Know...

... that Airspeed completed the sweep while FSC Eisenach tries the same in Germany?

posted Sep 14th, 2007 - The total Airspeed sweep of all the Formation Skydiving competition events at the USPA Nationals 2007 is complete.

The Airspeed line-up for the 10-way competition (Craig Girard, Mark Kirkby, Andy Delk, Eliana Rodriguez, Todd Hawkins, Joey Jones, Christopher Irwin, John Eagle, Gary Beyer, John Hamilton, Steve Nowak on camera) played a catch-up game after a penalty in Round 1 that ended with the best score of the competition in Round 6, which was desperately needed to win another set of USPA gold medals.

The whole Perris Fury line-up (Chris Farina, Joshua Hall, Christy Frikken, Ulrich Stuwe), plus William Morrison, Mark Tennison, Michael Anderson, Steve Saloman, Scott Latinis and Piya Nava managed to fend off Airspeed and the Golden Knights by a few seconds until Round 5. The Golden Knights could not get past the Perris team at the end, but Airspeed peak-performed once again at the right time

The NSL News mentioned earlier that this week, including last weekend, would be the busiest time of the year for the NSL News. The ESL Championship 2007 kicked off the event series Friday last week, and the USPA Nationals 2007 started a day later. The German Nationals 2007 began on Tuesday.

German teams did not attend the ESL Championship 2007 due to this very tight schedule, and they did not miss too much. The event in Spa, Belgium, suffered a miserable weather situation, and only two rounds were completed for all teams.

The weather situation was not perfect in Germany this week. However, the ten rounds in 4-way were already completed on Thursday, and six 8-way rounds today keep the event still perfectly on schedule. The new German 4-way champion of 2007 and national team for 2008, FSC Eisenach, is the same line-up that competed under the name "Next Generation" and "German 4-way" earlier his year and also at the FAI World Cup 2007.

Markus Bastuck, Dieter Schwarz, Jörn Thiele, Max Thiele and Alexander Hau on camera are on their way to accomplish the double-gold feature in Germany. Their 8-way team EADS, with Jens Goennemann, Thomas Spielvogel, Olaf Biedermann and Goran Meyer in the other four slots, is far ahead of the former 8-way champion, FSC Remscheid.

The German Nationals 2007 also features a very unique and consequent application of the IPC competition categories. The competition has its own and separate national category for the female 4-way event where three other female line-ups (Air Bubbles, Rock@s Remscheid, Mermaids) took on the reigning national 4-way team, Chicas. The NSL leaderboard has all AAA Class teams ranked together. The Chicas won the German female title by far and will represent the country as the national team once again in 2008. The NSL News will follow up on the competition and its results after completion of the 8-way event.
