Airspeed Odyssey's Round 9 at the USPA Nationals 2007 completes the NSL-TV coverage of the event. All previously uploaded videos can still be viewed at the special NSL-TV page.
Airspeed Odyssey's video of Round 9 follows Perris Fury's video of the same jump, which was uploaded to the NSL-TV page yesterday. The new USPA 4-way champion posted another sole highscore for this round with 21 points. It looked once again almost effortless how Odyssey outscored all the other top teams in Ottawa.
The NSL News coverage of the USPA Nationals 2007 is brought to you with the help of:
The NSL-TV audience has one more opportunity to study the outstanding performance of Odyssey's female point, Eliana Rodriguez. Her NSL Profile story offers an overview of her whole career.
The first part of the story ended when she had won her first world championship title in IPC's female category with Synchronicity. An update followed when she was selected by Airspeed in 2001 and became the first female Airspeed member. This update finished with a preview into Eliana's future: "No female competitor has won Excalibur yet..."
The next update followed in 2005 and was naturally related to the previous update: "Did you know that Eliana Rodriguez is the first female world champion in Formation Skydiving competition?" She had won the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2004 with Arizona Airspeed's 8-way line-up in Croatia.
Eliana has become a 4-way and 8-way veteran after all these years and is now one of the most experienced and skilled competitors in the world. Gold medals at USPA Nationals or at World Meets or World Cups are nothing special any longer. The goals have changed, and they are located on a higher level.
She cannot become any longer the first female competitor who won a 4-way gold medal at a World Championship. Natasha Montgomery has already taken this special place in the history book of Formation Skydiving competition when she won with DeLand Fire in Germany 2006.
However, there is still a title that nobody has achieved to date. No female competitor has yet won a gold medal in 4-way and also in 8-way at World Championships of Formation Skydiving. Eliana Rodrigues was the first female 8-way world champion, and Natasha Montgomery was the first female 4-way world champion.
Several male Airspeed members have accomplished this double-gold feature in the past, and two of them are Eliana's current team mates, Craig Girard and Mark Kirkby. Both won 4-way gold medals together with Airspeed Vertical at the World Meet in Spain 2001 and had already a few 8-way gold medals in their records by then. Craig Girard added another 8-way gold medal in Croatia 2004.
The World Meet 2008 in France will offer Eliana Rodriguez the first opportunity to copy her team mates' achievements. However, she would also become the first female competitor with gold medals in both events. It is a goal on the highest possible level of achievements, and it would surely be more than enough reason to update her NSL Profile story once again.
