Did You Know...

... that Brazil's national team CTR Optimum posted an 18.0 average last weekend?

CTR Optimum with coach Craig Girard
posted Oct 15th, 2007 - Two 4-way competitions took place last weekend, one in Georgia and the other one in Brazil. The scores from Georgia are not available yet, while Fábio Diniz already updated the information for the Brazilian league page.

CTR Optimum has been the top team in Brazil for several years now. Team members Fábio Diniz and André Ferraz founded the team in 2005 and initiated a league structure in Brazil, which was then included in the NSL 4-way network.

The current line-up (Ziara Abud - Outside Center, Fábio Diniz - Tail, André Ferraz - Point, Pedro "Junior" Ushizima - Inside Center, Renato "Chubby" Acerbi - Camera) trained and competed on a regular basis since 2005. Coach Craig Girard, Airspeed Odyssey member, has worked with the team in Brazil and in Arizona, as well.

Brazilian line-up of 2001
The team made progress and represented Brazil internationally for the first time at the World Cup 2005 in Eloy. The 12.9 average won the 12th place in a 16-team field.

Next goal was the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2006 in Germany. Teams from Brazil had not attended the World Meets in 2003 (France) and 2004 (Croatia). The last Brazilian line-up competed in Spain 2001 and included Teiwaz member Thiago Murradas and CTR Optimum's Center Inside, Pedro "Junior" Ushizima. The line-up of 2001 finished in 17th place of 34 teams with a 10.3 average.

CTR line-up of 2006 and 2007
CTR Optimum attended all four meets in Brazil in 2006, two before the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2006 in Germany and two more after the trip to Europe. The 14.0 average in Germany was the highest team average in 2006 and won the 18th place of 25 teams.

The Brazilian team continued with the same line-up in 2007 and attended the two meets of the small league (14.7 - 18.0) this year. Last weekend's faster competition draw offered the opportunity to post new record scores, and CTR Optimum took full advantage of it.

The 18.0 average is the highest 6-round average in team history, and it includes a new Brazilian and South American highscore for a single round with the 27-pointer in Round 1.

CTR's scoring progression
Last weekend's competition was hosted by Skydive Boituva. FAI judge Paulo Zanella was in charge of the scores and the meet management. A Cessna Caravan 208 was the jump plane for the 6-round competition.

CTR Optimum will now travel to Arizona once again and prepare for this year's national championship with coach Craig Girard. Windtunnel training and jumps are both on the agenda. Team speaker Fábio Diniz is realistic enough to know that last weekend's 18.0 average is not the new performance level. He has a very modest goal for the last competition of the year: "We hope that our average can be up to 15.0 at a 10-round competition."
