Did You Know...

... that Hayabusa Defence leads in India with a 30.3 average?

posted Oct 16th, 2007 - The NSL News story on October 5 announced the 4th CISM Military World Games in India. Belgium's FAI World Cup 2007 champion, Hayabusa Defence, and the Golden Knights have traveled to Asia and represent their countries at the 4-way event of the parachuting competition.

The NSL News received an update from Hayabusa Defence, and the team's videographer, Danny Jacobs, sent the video files of the first three competition rounds. The previous NSL News story already explained the different dive pool and rules for the competition draw. The videos of the first three rounds provide the visual evidence of the CISM specific rules.

There was still one little missing detail, which came to the surface with the video of Round 2. The Caterpillar is a part of the sequence as a random formation, which is usually the first and second formation of Block 15. The Cat replaces the Star as the Random Formation M since the Star is already the beginning formation of each sequence.

Hayabusa Defence stands with a 30.3 average after the first three rounds of the competition in India. This is unofficially the first place, one single point ahead of the Golden Knights. Official scores have not been posted yet at the event's website.

The NSL stopwatch had 33 points within 35 seconds of working time for the Belgian team in Round 1 (M-Q-P-21), 28 points for Round 2 (M-Cat-L-4) and 30 points in Round 3 (M-K-C-13).

The missing challenges of the exit and the subterminal part of the skydive makes the CISM competition quite similar to a windtunnel competition. It will be worthwhile to compare the scores from India with the scores of the World Challenge 2007 where several world-class teams posted extremely high meet averages, including Airspeed Odyssey, Team Fastrax, XL, Hayabusa Defence and Sky Panthers.

Hayabusa's Center Outside, David Grauwels, is writing a journal at the team's website. He mentioned that it was more challenging for the Golden Knights since the Army team had to accommodate their participation in the Accuracy competition, as well.

It hasn't caused a problem so far since there was eventually no Formation Skydiving competition on Monday, and the Golden Knights could make their four Accuracy jumps without any pressure that day. The three 4-way rounds were completed on Tuesday.

There is also a female 4-way category at the CISM event. David Grauwels mentioned that the Golden Knights line-up is four points ahead of the Norwegian team after four rounds. He commented his own team's performance throughout the first three rounds:

"We did three jumps today. It seems to be a close call between us and the US team Golden Knights. We both broke the old world record of 32 points in Round 1. First the Golden Knights with a 33-pointer, then we a tied their score! The judges also scored Round 2: Golden Knights 27 and HayaBusa Defence 28. Round 3 has been jumped as well, but I don't have any official results yet. But, if everything goes well, we both scored 30. Not bad on the first real competition day. About that world record - I think that it will be sharpened here again in Round 7..."
