Did You Know...

... that HayaBusa Defence has room for improvements?

Roy Janssen
posted Oct 24th, 2007 - HayaBusa Defence's Outside Center, David Grauwels, filled the team's website with information throughout the 4th CISM Military World Games in India, and the NSL News used some of his commentary for the daily updates.

Military World Games, Hyderabad, India

By Roy Janssen

After competing at the FAI World Cup 2007 in Russia, our Nationals in Belgium and the ESL Championship 2007 we had one last training camp to prepare ourselves for the Military World Games in India.

Since the CISM dive pool is different than the one of the FAI we spent 80 jumps to feel comfortable with it. We definitely needed to take the CISM training serious, even if it looks kind of easy, compared to the FAI dive pool.

The speed is much higher, and there is a big chance to lose many points if something goes wrong. With the Golden Knights as our biggest opponents we couldn't afford to make any mistakes at all. We were more then curious to see us challenging each other.

This was also what we were looking for. We wanted a meet where we needed to fight for each single point until the last round. And, for sure, we got what we wanted!

The CISM meet was a very good training for the next World Meet in Maubeuge. It is mentally harder to stay focused for so many days. The 8-round meet took seven days. The heat, food and the long days at the dropzone made it very challenging to stay "fresh" all the time.

During the meet, the Knights forced us to push it harder and harder to keep the lead and not fall behind. They showed some really strong skydives and a great competition spirit. Having competitions like these is just great! If we made a little mistake, they were right on top of it, and we could see our few-point lead vanish.

Back to boot camp for three members
I think we had some good rounds and some with flaws and mistakes. The good thing of the mistakes is that it leaves space to improve our performance. We will be better next year, for sure. We always keep evaluating our jumps, and even after winning the CISM meet we know what to work on. It is still a long way to go, but eventually we will get there.

One improvement, compared to the World Cup in Russia, is that we stayed mentally much more in control when the pressure was high.

We are now done with our training for this year. Next week, David, Andy and myself are going back to finish the boot camp we started earlier this year in January. We will be done with this at the end of November and then have a whole month of vacation.

We will resume with our training in January, and we look forward to begin working on the improvements. For now, we can look back at a very successful year with loads of fun and good skydives :-)
