Did You Know...

... that Scrambles and Rookies do well in Colorado despite weather issues?

Mike-Hi's Twinotter
posted May 10th, 2005 - The Colorado Skydiving League held its second event of the 2005 season last weekend at the Mile-Hi Skydiving Center. The Scrambles event and the Rookie Class competition took place on Saturday, while the AA Class teams competed on Sunday. CSL Director Brian Vande Krol provided the meet story.

Clouds and winds on Saturday kept some skydivers home and prevented the competitors from completing all of their rounds. Team Awesome braved the winds and completed all three rounds, while Team Joe only finished one round. Caged Animals completed two rounds.

Scrambles

Although we didn’t have as many Scrambles teams as at the first meet, we did introduce twice as many new skydivers to 4-way! Joe Marino (37 jumps) and Megan Christensen (66 jumps) had a tremendous learning experience as their teams provided them with their first 4-way experiences. Christensen even got to do an 8-point skydive. Odds are that we have created two new addicts. And, of course, Tiger was back for a couple of rounds. Thanks to the others who hung out all day to make it happen: Fred Masterson, Joe Peterson, Tom Reiman, Steve Zeder, Glenn Frank, and John Hall on video.

Rookies

The Rookie Class event saw Caged Animals with a remarkable improvement from their first meet, adding 50% to their average, scoring 1.5 points. Also, their working time was cut down to 35 seconds from 50 seconds at the first meet, making the equivalent improvement 114%! (I was told there would be no math...) Caged Animals consists of Daena Lee, Craig Julien, Travis Roth, and Jim Lawler. Travis Annan flew video.

AA Class

I heard rumors of bad weather Sunday morning that kept several teams away from the AA Class meet on Sunday. I somehow missed all the bad weather on my drive to the DZ. We had pretty good weather for most of the day, with the occasional shutdown for wind. The two teams that showed up got in five rounds, which may be a record for a Colorado meet!

G-Gap scored a 4.2 meet average, very respectable for a very new team with no block training and a substitute point flyer. A camera malfunction in round two cost them an estimated five points, which would have given them a 5.2 average. Nice work for the team's first meet! G-Gap consists of Steve Zeder, Tom Reiman, Jim Clarke, and Glenn Frank filled in for Dave Boes. Byron Dormire flew video.

Airforce Prodigy, a practiced Cadet team, was looking very sharp. The tunnel time and coaching they have been getting has certainly been paying off. They scored 10 points in rounds two and four (with one bust in round four), certainly a high standard for the Colorado Skydiving League. I expect that, as the season progresses and they improve their block work and flashing, they could be looking at medals at USPA or/and NSL Championship this year. Prodigy comprises of Travis Dauwalter, Matt Tuchsler, Joe Dawn, and Pat Chapman.

Thanks to Mile Hi Skydiving The skydiving center did a terrific job of getting the teams on loads and providing what we needed to run a successful meet. The biggest thing was providing us with a fast climbing Twinotter and promising to move the tandems to a King Air, if needed to get the meet done. Sarah and Lisa made manifest easy and smooth.

The next meet will be the AA Class competition on June 4 at Mile Hi Skydiving. See ya there!
