News Article Did you know that Skydive Sebastian hosted the last FSL meet in January 2003?
posted: Jan 18th, 2003 The first meet of the Florida Skydiving League 2003 brought seven teams to Skydive Sebastian on a very cold morning. The host was well prepared for the start of the FSL 2003 season with a Skyvan to fly the local 16-way team and fun jumpers and a Twinotter for the teams. Both aircraft are from Cross Keys, NJ. The event location was the site of the USPA Nationals in 1999 and is set up very well for a competition. While the jumpers had above average facilities and aircraft, the NSL staff was spoiled by the location. Chief Judge Richard Schachner had his own almost private judging room. NSL President... (more)
News Article Did you know that French national coach Jerome David evaluated the results of the FAI World Cup 2002?
posted: Oct 24th, 2002 This interview with the French national coach Jerome David, who was responsible for the French Formation Skydiving sweep in Menzelinsk 2010, was published eight years before France won the four sets of gold medals (4-way Open - 4-way Women - 4-way VFS - 8-way Open) at the same event. It also connects with the current situation in France, as national coach Mathieu Bernier is trying something that is very similar to the 2010 success. Mathieu Bernier won two gold medals in Menzelinsk 2010, and he is now trying to guide three members of his 4-way Women lineup (Christine Malnis, Sophia Pecout, Gaelle... (more)
News Article Did you know that Doug Park completed NSL News interviews with all DeLand Majik members?
posted: Oct 15th, 2002 Interviews with three former DeLand Majik members (Gary Smith, Joey Jones, Solly Williams), 4-way world champions of 2004, have recently been published with information from the archives. Only inside center Doug Park did not have his turn so far. However, he and Gary Smith eventually visited the NSL office together for an interview on the morning of 15 October 2002. Gary Smith and Joey Jones are still very active in the sport and contribute regularly with their feedback in the NSL News Coaches Corner. Doug Park is still following 4-way competition with great interest and randomly shares a few... (more)
News Article Did you know that the Golden Knights were sliding the exit formations?
posted: Sep 28th, 2002 The NSL News recently covered the time period between 2001 and 2003 with several interviews of world-class competitors that had not been published before. Golden Knights team captain John Hoover provided his feedback the first time on 14 June 2002, which was recently published. The previous interview with him took place in the middle of the 2002 season, a few months before the Golden Knights Gold team would win the 4-way Open Class competition at the USPA Nationals and qualify as the national team for the FAI World Meet 2003 in Gap-Tallard, France. The NSL News followed up with a new interview... (more)
News Article Did you know that the penalty rules changed after the FAI World Meet 2004?
posted: Sep 13th, 2002 Yesterday's video of NSL Live Talk with USPA's Chief Judge Jim Rees at the USPA Nationals 2019 included valuable information for teams and competitors how to present their performances successfully to the judges. Jim Rees also explained the ever increasing difficulties for the judges to produce scores quickly and accurately. A new NSL News interview from the archives, once again with DeLand Norgies member Carl-Erik Tuv, connects present and past with the same topic. The Norwegian national 4-way team, FAI bronze medalists in 1999, 2001 and 2003, trained and competed seriously only at a time when... (more)
News Article Did you know that DeLand Majik posted a historic 10-round average at the Malevsky Cup 2002?
posted: Aug 2nd, 2002 Russia has a history of hosting first-class international Formation Skydiving competitions that did not only begin with the FAI World Meet 2010 in Menzelinsk, now followed by the FAI Mondial Tanay 2020. The series of Malevsky Cup events began in 2002. FAI/IPC eventually recognized the Malevsky Cup as a "First Category Event", on the same level as world meets and world cups, as the NSL News reported on 4 March 2004. The event, with the new official name "2004 Open European Championship and the IPC Anton Malevsky Memorial World Cup", was in its third year by then. The NSL News covered the inaugural... (more)
