Did You Know...

... that Julia Swallow will be back for NFTO at the Wind Games?

Nephtys Weembi at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019
posted Jan 4th, 2020 - France has two different national teams in the 4-way Women event, as the NSL News explained earlier last year. The French Weembi Girls, 4-way Women world champions of 2018 and one of the best 4-way Open Class teams in the world, have not been competing indoors. The complete lineup posted their last scores at the FAI European Indoor Championship in April 2018, where they won their event with a 32.3 average.

French national coach Mathieu Bernier wants his best 4-way team to focus on winning gold medals in 4-way Women and in 8-way Open at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2020 in Tanay. He thinks that training and competing at indoor events at the same time would add too much efforts and distraction and could jeopardize the French plan for 2020.

He did not create a separate national indoor team in 4-way Women only for this purpose. In fact, the Nephtys Weembi team began with training and competition before Mathieu Bernier developed the plan for the new "French Mission Impossible".

He succeeded with this part of the plan when Nephtys Weembi won the gold medals for France at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019 at Weembi Lille. New outdoor team member Gaelle Giesen competed in 8-way at the same event, her team mates Sophia Pecout and Christine Malnis in 4-way Open with Weembi High Rollers.

Nephtys Weembi and NFTO at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019 at Weembi Lille
Nephtys with Clementine Le Bohec (2nd from right) and Pamela Lissajoux (2nd from left)
Nephtys Weembi came recently back to competition action at the Weembinamic 2019, where they finished in 3rd place under the team name "Espoir Weembi Lille". It was not the complete lineup, as Odin Parachute Systems member Maxime Lacourt filled the open 4th slot.

Claire Victoire De Fleurian, Elise Poindron and Jessica Thebault are used to have a different team mate in the 4th slot, while the 3-way have not missed a meet together since they started in October 2018. There was only one exception when Jessica Thebault was injured at the FAI Indoor World Meet last year, and Pamela Lissajoux helped out.

Clementine Le Bohec, reigning outdoor world champion in 4-way Women and 8-way member, has spent most of the time with the three Nephtys. However, she will compete with Weembi Unicorns at the upcoming Wind Games, and Pamela Lissajoux will be back in the Nephtys Weembi lineup.

The Wind Games will be the first competition for this lineup since Jessica Thebault is back in action.

Nephtys Weembi - NFTO at the Wind Games 2019
NFTO training with Roy Janssen during the Weembinamic 2019
British team NFTO will once again be the main opponent for the French team. NFTO had finished only two points behind Nephtys Weembi at the FAI indoor world meet last year, after a 10-point difference a few months earlier at the Wind Games, where Clementine Le Bohec competed for Nephtys Weembi.

NFTO will be launching the 2020 competition season once again with former Satori member Julia Swallow in the lineup. She had also competed for NFTO at the Wind Games last year when Anna Hicks was not available. This time, she steps in for NFTO point Kate Lindsley, once again in the front piece.

As last year, the Wind Games will also provide a preview of the situation before the FAI Indoor World Cup a few months later, where NFTO will probably be back with the complete lineup.

Both teams met each other already during the Weembinamic, as NFTO was training with coach Roy Janssen while the three Nephtys were competing with Maxime Lacourt. Pamela Lissajoux will be back in her slot at the end of the month for the Wind Games.
