Did You Know...

... that Polish seniors and Czech juniors were tied after 40 AA Class rounds?

HF Cubs in action in the Hurricane Factory
posted Feb 15th, 2020 - New and impressive scores from the Czech Republic are posted, where 13 teams completed the February meet of the World Tunnel League at the Hurricane Factory. The NSL News still goes back to another meet at the same location in January though, the Czech Open Indoor Championship.

The update on January 28th covered the 26.5 average of the HF Cubs, which had lifted the 4-way Junior world champions of 2019 to the top level in 4-way Women of last year. Other indoor scores of the 2020 season confirmed that the HF Cubs still seem to be a medal contender in 4-way Women.

The HF Cubs did not really have much serious competition on the AAA Class leaderboard at the Czech Indoor Open. It was the AA Class competition that created more than enough excitement at the event.

It does not happen very often that there is more than one tie at the end of a 10-round competition. It happened at the Czech Open Indoor Championship, and it was even more exciting, as the duels for gold and bronze medals were fought out between teams from two different nations, Poland and Czech Republic.

AA Class awards at the Flyspot Polish Open 2019
Czech and Polish 4-way teams have been visiting each other for indoor meets randomly, as the travel distances between the neighboring European countries are reasonable. Three Czech teams had just visited Flyspot Katowice in November last year for the Flyspot Polish Open 2019. HF Cubs won the AAA Class competition with their standing 27.4 record average.

The AA Class competition was already very tight at the Flyspot Polish Open in November. In fact, MAD Team and HF Dragonflies had to perform an extra round to break their tie for the silver medal position, and HF Flying Rebels finished only one single point behind in 4th place.

It is hard to imagine that it could be even tighter than that, but it was, at the Czech Indoor Open in January, just a few months later. HF Flying Rebels and MAD Team were tied in 1st place after Round 10, HF Dragonflies and Flyspot Omega tied for 3rd place. It was the second time within three months that HF Dragonflies had to go into an extra round to break a tie. The senior teams, MAD Team in November, Flyspot Omega in January, won both times. The second tie between HF Flying Rebels and MAD Team on the top of the leaderboard was not broken in an extra round. The Czech team was declared the winner with the highest score of the meet in the last round.

HF Flying Rebels at the Flyspot Polish Open
Both duels were between senior teams from Poland and junior teams from the Czech Republic. The winner, HF Flying Rebels, will represent their country in 4-way Junior at the FAI Indoor World Cup in April, together with HF Cubs in 4-way Women and HF Flying Circus in 4-way Open.

The duels between Polish and Czech 4-way teams will take place more frequently in the future. The Czech teams have been competing monthly at the meets of the World Tunnel League in the Hurricane Factory throughout the winter season.

The Polish teams will soon have the opportunity to compare their scores directly with the Czech scores and other participating teams in the 4-way world, as Flyspot is joining the World Tunnel League. The Flyspot Liga has offered separate 6-round meets in the past, which will soon be synchronized with the other WTL events.

The Czech and Polish Open Indoor Championships will be the highlights and annual showdown, where the teams have been and will be facing each other directly. The Czech teams have now posted their new February scores, and that's another story...
