Did You Know...

... that NMP PCH HayaBusa and Qatar Tigers are in Florida for winter training?

NSL Live Talk with NMP PCH HayaBusa at the Sarah Vande Berg (SVB) tennis center
posted Feb 19th, 2025 - NMP PCH HayaBusa member Dennis Praetmentioned during NSL Live Talk on February 3rd that his team would soon begin with outdoor training at Skydive City in Florida. The NSL News took good note of that to find the team live at their winter/spring camp for the next discussion of the current situation in 4-way Formation Skydiving competition.

The results of the Wind Games 2025 were naturally a topic for the conversation with the complete lineup, even though Dennis Praet had provided his own evaluation of the HayaBusa performance and the other teams on the top of the leaderboard during the earlier remote conversation on the Zoom online platform.

The performance of the Belgian national team under pressure was still the topic when all five team members, including team videographer David Grauwels, made themselves available for the latest NSL Live Talk. It took place again at the Sarah Vande Berg (SVB) tennis center in Zephyrhills, where HayaBusa fan Pascal Collard, himself a passionate skydiver, kindly accommodates the team when they visit. A few previous NSL Live Talk conversations with NMP PCH HayaBusa were also recorded at different locations of the same place during winter and spring training in the past years. However, the NSL TV Unfiltered camera also recorded the team in training action at Skydive City.

Lineup for the whole year: NMP PCH HayaBusa
There was an unexpected surprise for the NSL News after arrival at Skydive City. Not only NMP PCH HayaBusa have made the skydiving center in Florida their headquarters for winter training. Qatar's consistently growing skydiving delegation uses the facilities for training in all development stages and all disciplines frequently and regularly.

The Qatar Tigers were in the middle of their own training camp at Skydive City when NMP PCH HayaBusa arrived. Hamad Rashid Al Marri, Abdulaziz Shafi Al Shammari and Fahad Soud Al Shammari have a new team mate, as their former coach Gary Smith reported on January 24th, a former member of the Qatar Lions.

Czech videographer Pavel Skotak has been replaced with a native Qatar citizen on camera, as well, and the new Tigers members need as much practice as possible. NMP PCH HayaBusa used Skydive City's Twin Otter for their training, while the Qatar delegation and the Tigers were exiting from the Cessna Caravan. NMP PCH HayaBusa and Qatar Tigers will share more time together this year, which will be no coincidence. Qatar will be hosting the military CISM world championships at the end of the year, where Belgium and NMP PCH HayaBusa have been the defending champions since 2007.

Yerkes-Dodson Law Bell Curve
David Grauwels stepped in at last year's CISM event to defend the title successfully once again. He will now continue only on camera, and the HayaBusa lineup will not change at any indoor or outdoor competitions. Ray Lodens demonstrated at the Wind Games that he is ready for all challenges that could come in his way, including tie-breaking extra rounds and visiting Qatar's home turf for the title defense in November.

David Grauwels' brother Andy, formerly point and outside center for NMP PCH HayaBusa in the 3-time world champion lineup (2014 - 2016 - 2018), is coaching the Qatar Tigers and will try to dethrone HayaBusa after the 16 CISM victories and his own share of CISM gold medals. Both teams will also have to defeat the Golden Knights, who finished in 2nd place last year.

The impressive performance of new member Ray Lodens and his team at the Wind Games under maximum pressure, especially in the extra round, was the second major topic of the NSL Live Talk conversation. Tail Jeroen "Bob" Nollet is also an athletic competitor in other sports and has educated himself and his team mates as much as possible in sports psychology and the importance of mental training, especially in Formation Skydiving competition. He explained that there is a healthy balance between lack of excitement and anxiety, which is the foundation for peak performance on the scale of the arousal level. His knowledge in this area is based on the "Yerkes-Dodson Law Bell Curve" that he explained.
