Did you know that Andy Honigbaum has great plans for the CASL 2012 season? posted: Sep 18th, 2011 Two of the three Golden Knights lineups attended the August meet of the Carolina Skydiving League shortly after coming back from Germany where the female team and the Black lineup had competed at the World Cup 2011. Golden Knights Gold members were coaching and judging at the same event.
The last CASL meet of the 2011 season was hosted by the Raeford Parachute Center last weekend, and now it was time for the Gold lineup to put the first 4way outdoor scores on a leaderboard this year. The focus of the US Army team was on 8way this year, which worked out very well after bringing home the 8way... (more)
Did you know that there is a road to better support for the sport? posted: Sep 17th, 2011 The NSL News story posted a copy of the 7th NSL News contribution for Blue Skies Mag coverage on 11 September 2011. Topic of the "Turning Points" was sponsorship in skydiving.
It was the first part of a 2-piece article, which covers this increasingly important part of skydiving competition, and it opened up with a brief evaluation of the current situation and the difficulties.
Blue Skies Mag and NSL News followed up in the September issue. This time, the topic was the search for solutions and thoughts about ways how to possibly tap into the deep pockets of the corporate business world, which... (more)
Did you know that Sky Panthers Barkli won with Center Inside Nikolay Vylegzhanin? posted: Sep 16th, 2011 The NSL News preview of the Russian Nationals 2011 on 14 September 2011 mentioned that a new 4way world record for a single round would not be out of reach in Round 3. As expected, the Sky Panthers Barkli speed experts seriously threatened their own 56-pointer mark with a 54-pointer this week.
In fact, only two other teams have ever scored higher than 54 points at an outdoor competition in the history of Formation Skydiving competition. The reigning 4way world champions from France, Aerodyne Aerokart, tied the Sky Panthers's 56-pointer at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010 where... (more)
Did you know that Thunder challenges Paratec-Saar for the unofficial amateur world champion title? posted: Sep 15th, 2011 There are still no scores from Russia available yet, even though the weather situation seems to have improved recently. New World Cup 2011 videos now feature Round 8 in the Open Class in the meantime, and they include two of the Russian teams that currently compete at the national championship, Sky Panthers Barkli and Gradient Alpha.
The extended leaderboard shows the second cleanest round of the competition with only one point deduction for the Swedish national team Bardagi. Only Round 2 was cleaner so far, with no point deductions at all for the Top 8 teams.
However, Bardagi probably still... (more)
Did you know that four Russian teams may be hunting for a new world record in Round 3? posted: Sep 14th, 2011 The nine teams at the Russian Nationals 2011 are still waiting for better weather, no scores have arrived at the NSL News office yet. However, the competition draw has been posted, and it includes a very interesting Round 3. The sequence of only random formations (H,Q,P,J,E) stands a pretty good chance to improve the world record for a single round, which is a 56-pointer at the moment.
Russian competition sites seem to have better chances for a super fast sequence. The Malevsky Cup 2006 in Stupino produced a world record (44 for H,O,B,Q,E) and the 56-pointer (J,M,Q,P,L) at the World Championship... (more)
Did you know that the Midwest Skydiving League had the toughest race in history at the last meet? posted: Sep 13th, 2011 It seems that no meet story from the Midwest Skydiving League is complete without a weather report, and the MWSL September Meet was no exception. Saturday morning Ottawa was blanketed in the thickest fog in recent memory courtesy of the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee.
The forecast was iffy at best, and the lingering fog did not allow jumping until after noon. Thanks to a bit of luck and skillful manifesting by Karry Schwartz, MWSL Director Alan Butt and his seven teams amazingly came within two loads of having all rounds completed.
Once again most of the MWSL teams competed in the AA Class.... (more)
