posted: Jan 29th, 2025 The NSL News has touched the topic of the unofficial amateur world champions on a regular basis in the past years, including the most recent NSL Live Talk with Ben Liston. By any means, this is exclusively a journalistic topic and is not covered by any rules and regulations in formation skydiving competition. However, the recreational teams and competitors still represent arguably 95% of the participants in the sport, which is a number that the experts in the sport estimate. posted: Jan 27th, 2025 Not much time is left until the decision will be made whether the current 4-way dive pool will be changed or not, as the NSL News reported on January 20th. The ISC Formation Skydiving Committee meetings at the 75th Plenary Meeting in Rome (Italy) will begin tomorrow, on January 28th, and conclude on February 2nd. The NSL News has tried to collect as much information as possible of the topic and provide views from different perspectives. News Article Did you know that the race for the 2nd place seems to be the highlight at the Wind Games?
posted: Jan 26th, 2025 The last two NSL News updates of the situation of the Qatar delegation in formation skydiving competition and the Panthers upgrade to AAA Class competition included the first NSL Power Rankings of the upcoming Wind Games 2025 in Empuriabrava, Spain. Eight of last year's 24 teams return to the same place, nine different teams have signed up for the event next week. Qatar's Lions and Cheetahs will be back with coaches Gary Smith and Luc Verstrepen, while the Tigers have to replace one of the reigning FAI bronze medalists and plan to compete only at military CISM world championships this year.... posted: Jan 24th, 2025 Yesterday's NSL Live Talk conversation with Gary Smith included a preview of the upcoming Wind Games in Spain and the first NSL Power Rankings. Solly Williams mentioned a day earlier that Arizona Airspeed will not attend the competition due to reasons of eligibility for new team member Alisson de Vargas. Two other U.S. teams will compete in Empuriabrava and are expected to finish on the top of the leaderboard behind the world's arguably new 4-way leader, Aethers Medjay from France. News Article Did you know that Gary Smith explained changes for Qatar Tigers, Lions and Cheetahs?
posted: Jan 24th, 2025 Gary Smith and Solly Williams are two of the most experienced participants in formation skydiving competition, first as world champion competitors, followed by successful coaching careers. Both are still very active in the sport as coaches, while they also still jump from planes or fly in wind tunnel chambers if it becomes necessary. Together they invented the modern style of 4-way performance with the famous mantis position, which they applied when they trained and competed together with South Africa's national 4-way team almost 30 years ago.
