Did you know that the SCSL meet in Perris brought up Piver trouble? posted: Jun 2nd, 2008 The scores of last weekend's competitions have been flowing in today, and the overall leaderboard is almost complete. Bodyflight Storm, the British national 4-way team in the female category, is on the very top of the AAA Class leaderboard with currently 14 teams.
Storm arrived in Perris just before the SCSL meet weekend for the next outdoor training camp. Event judge Judy Celaya reported that Bodyflight Storm was jumping with a "pretty good case of jet lag". She said that the team did well in spite of it and only got "a bit rough in the last rounds." (more)
Did you know that UK team Phobia keeps climbing up the ranks and classes? posted: May 31st, 2008 The AA Class competition at the season opener of the UK Skydiving League 2008 this month was already as tight as can be. The first three teams were separated by two points after the four rounds of the meet. Team Phobia, in 3rd place with a 13.3 average, is new to the AA Class and has been moving up a category every year.
Phobia was formed back in 2006 and entered 4-way competition in the Rookie Class. The team has now started its third year in the UKSL and consists of Laura Batterbee, Richard Head, Kate Morris and Graham Wilkins. Kate Morris replaced Tom Grocutt at the end of the 2007 season.... (more)
Did you know that the Spin Team is officially Italy's national team? posted: May 30th, 2008 It is a fact now that the Spin Team with Marco Arrigo will represent Italy at this year's World Championship of Formation Skydiving in France. The NSL News story on 5 May 2008 mentioned that the team's appeal still needed official approval by the Italian Sporting Commission (CCSA).
CCSA now approved the status of the Spin Team as the national 4-way team, and Marco Arrigo will compete in 4-way and 8-way in August. The CCSA meeting took place in Rome on May 27.
The Spin Team, with Marco Arrigo, Antonella Chiarin, Alessandro Giovannini, Mirko Righi and Enzo Muro on camera, will compete for Italy... (more)
Did you know that the Ranch started with a new attendance record? posted: May 29th, 2008 The expectations of the Ranch Skydiving League's new director, Ranch Fallout member Bob Schuyler, were fully met at last weekend's season opener in Gardiner. Seven teams attended the first RSL competition of the 2008 season. Five teams was the highest number of teams at a meet in 2007, and the new record attendance came already at the very beginning of this season.
In fact, it happened only once since 2003, in August 2006, that seven 4-way teams competed at a Ranch Skydiving League competition. RSL Director Bob Schuyler was happy with the turnout, even though the expected Rookie Class teams... (more)
Did you know that Dr. Joel Shugar died on Monday in a skydiving accident? posted: May 28th, 2008 Very sad news arrived from Arizona on Tuesday. Dr. Joel Shugar, one of the most passionate 4-way competitors and a true supporter of the sport, died in a skydiving accident in Eloy on May 26, 2008.
It would fill books to cover his merits in his professional career as an eye surgeon and for skydiving as a sport. The NSL News has covered his skydiving activities with Optic Nerve many times, and also his professional work as an eye surgeon with many top competitors.
The NSL News added Dr. Joel's career story to the NSL Profiles to honor his unlimited achievements and in memory of him as one... (more)
Did you know that the first round of FSL-TV is now available? posted: May 27th, 2008 The completion of last weekend's leaderboard with a total of 30 teams came along with the first meet videos of the previous weekend of May 17. A total of 37 teams competed by then, including eight teams of the Florida Skydiving League at Skydive Sebastian.
AAA Class team Sebastian Tempest was already introduced by the NSL News on 28 January 2008, and a few brief updates followed here and there. The FSL May meet was the first time that the new team competed on its home turf.
The 15.3 average after the six rounds in Sebastian is lower than the 16.9 average at the FSL Shamrock Showdown 2008.... (more)
