Did you know that the Russian Illusions are looking at $10,000 in reality? posted: Jan 7th, 2011 The NSL News mentioned earlier today that the Russian lineups at the Dubai Championship 2011 will be introduced next. Three teams compete in the 4-way Open Class, one in the 4-way Female Class. The three Russian teams in the Open Class are all lined up behind the medal and money rankings and will not be able to finish as the Sky Panthers did at the World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2010. The Russian team in the female category, Illusions, however, seems to be safe in the bronze medal position.
This is not a big surprise after taking a closer look at the lineup. There is a lot of talent... (more)
Did you know that Dennis Praet has come up quickly to full Hayabusa speed? posted: Jan 7th, 2011 The first competition day is over at the Dubai Championship 2011. Unfortunately, the NSL News is not live on competition site, and the information trickles in very slowly from the place far away.
CYPRES representative Rob Kendall is doing his best to get scores, photos and information, but at least for the official scores the whole audience on and off site depends on announcements and publications by the host. However, the scores of the first two rounds are now posted, and the competition in the Open Class is just as exciting as expected.
Video clips and stories have not been overwhelming... (more)
Did you know that a Twin Otter will fly the 4-way teams in Dubai this year? posted: Jan 6th, 2011 One more day before the first scores of the new competition season will be posted at the Dubai Championship 2011, and the numbers will most likely be on a higher level compared to last year.
The competition will be easier for the teams this year for one very simple reason. The jump plane for the 4-way competition is a Twin Otter this time, which will make a world of a difference for the exit work.
The audience may remember that the teams had to deal with a helicopter, a Bell 212, in January 2010. Some teams tried to launch the complete first formations of the sequences, some did not. Arizona... (more)
Did you know that the NSL website has long been the hub of detailed and interesting news for hardcore 4-way geeks? posted: Jan 5th, 2011 The NSL office has had a new neighbor since Blue Skies Mag moved in a few months ago.
The whole neighborhood was already under the control of skydiving businesses when the NSL moved into the current office a few years ago. The skydiving plaza alone is hosting the Jumpshack, Merlin Suits, Skydiving Outlet and a small rigging loft, with the United Parachute Technologies building right next to the little square.
The new next door neighbor is just as much a great addition to the neighborhood as it is a great asset for the media coverage of the skydiving world. Kolla Kolbeinsdottir, Lara Kjeldsen... (more)
Did you know that a German 4-way team in Dubai has very Connatural relationships? posted: Jan 4th, 2011 The NSL News never looks only at the top contenders at any meets. Usually there is great competition everywhere on the leaderboard, which deserves the same attention. However, as in other sports, many of the world class athletes are also the leaders in the sport and more visible.
Several of the "other teams" at the Dubai Championship 2011 have been covered by the NSL News in the past, and there are also competitors in Dubai who make the trip just with a team for the meet.
The lineup of one of those "pickup" teams recently caught the NSL News attention. One of the two German teams in Dubai... (more)
Did you know that each of the three top contenders in Dubai has one new member? posted: Jan 3rd, 2011 The NSL News is ready for the coverage of the Dubai Championship 2011. The event pages with the preview stories, polls and discussion options on Facebook are set. The first scores will hopefully be posted on Friday, along with reports from correspondents in Dubai.
The leaderboards show the registered teams, and the team names in the Open Class field indicate that the total of $45,000 will be divided between Aerodyne Cypres Maubeuge, Arizona Airspeed and NMP-PCH Hayabusa. This would be a copy of the Dubai leaderboard in January 2010.
Russia has registered two strong teams, as well. However,... (more)
