News Article Did you know that Block 12 continues to make history as a troublemaker?
posted: Sep 20th, 2004 The valued NSL audience may have wondered why there has not been any commentary of round five and Sunday's summary in the 4-way Open event yet. The NSL News has ignored the issue and delayed the publication on purpose. The emotions were very high at the end of the day and after the viewing and scoring of France Maubeuge and DeLand Majik. The NSL News decided to walk away, turn off the computer and let everybody have a good night sleep before taking on a new round of Block 12 (Zipper - Star) discussion. In fact, the NSL News considered complete silence for a little while since the majority of... (more)
News Article Did you know that what Airspeed veteran Dan BC thinks about the 8-way situation after two rounds?
posted: Sep 19th, 2004 The 8-way competition in Croatia is done for today. USA Airspeed had a great second round with the highscore of 23 points and took the lead. France, the leader after round one, lost four points to the US team in round two and is now in second place, two points ahead of the Russian team. Germany has settled in fourth place after gaining two more points for the lead over Italy. The NSL News invited Dan BC, former multi world champion in 4-way and 8-way with Arizona Airspeed, to comment the situation in the 8-way competition after two rounds in Croatia. News Article Did you know that France took the lead in 8-way?
posted: Sep 19th, 2004 Round one of the 8-way competition brought a quite surprising picture. Neither Russia nor USA ended up on top of the field. The new French team took the lead with a 21-pointer as the highest score for this opening round. While USA Airspeed kept up with the French pace and ended up only shortly behind with 20 points, the defending world champions from Russia finished far behind after 50 seconds of working time. Russia's 8-way team went significantly slower throughout the whole jump. Airspeed captain Craig Girard mentioned that the Russian engineering did not seem to be very efficient, and it... (more)
News Article Did you know that how the Russian 8-way team qualified for this world meet?
posted: Sep 19th, 2004 The most exciting part of this year's national championship in Russia was the 8-way competition. Russia had only one very strong 8-way team in the last decade, which finally captured the 8-way sword Excalibur and the gold medals for Russia for the first time in 8-way history in 2001. The same team defended the gold medals in a nerve wrecking battle, including jump-off and tie-breaker, at the Mondial 2003 in France. However, there was already ain interesting story behind the Russian 8-way situation in 2003. The winning Russian 8-way team was disbandoned after the success at the world meet in... (more)
News Article Did you know that the 8-way competition has begun in Croatia?
posted: Sep 19th, 2004 The NSL News reported earlier on the 8-way situation in France. The French 8-way teams completed only seven rounds at the 2004 championship. Similar to the current situation in Russia, France has now two 8-way teams on world class medal level. Hautes Alpes is not the national 8-way team. It was formed after the Mondial 2003 with former 8-way members of the 1995, 1999 and 2003 teams. They do not train a lot together and compete just for the fun of competition. All members (Ferre, Grisoni, Losantos, Zunino, Ars, Negrier, Vazille, Auvray) already retired after many years of training and competition... (more)
News Article Did you know that Synchronicity brings a one-point lead into today's round three?
posted: Sep 19th, 2004 Rijeka woke up to perfect weather conditions on Sunday morning. The winds are calm, the sun is shining, morning chill was in the air. The only concern that remained at the end of a perfect first day of competition on Saturday was the aircraft situation on Sunday morning. The announced schedule included Accuracy, 4-way Women and 8-way. Each of these three events would need the MI-8 as the jump plane, according to the event rules. The difficulty was that the Accuracy event takes place at a stadium downtown Rijeka, while the Formation Skydiving events are being held at the airport. Rumors were... (more)
